The house of Bottega Veneta was founded in 1966 in Vicenza, in Italy's Veneto region. Its sewing machines, designed for ready-to-wear, couldn't handle the thick leathers typically used in leather goods — so the artisans developed an ingenious solution: cutting the leather into thin strips (fettucce) and hand-weaving them to create a solid, flexible, and recognizable structure. They called this technique "intrecciato" — from the Italian intrecciare, to interweave. What started as a technical constraint became the most iconic signature of discreet luxury worldwide. In 1978, Andy Warhol signed a memorable advertising campaign for the house under the slogan "When your own initials are enough" — a statement of principle that encapsulates everything.
