Imagine this bag carried under the arm, with a shortened strap, over a black trench coat or a camel coat — the crescent silhouette hugs the hip, the gold Double G subtly shines on the front, the black grained leather is of absolute sobriety. This is the Aphrodite: Alessandro Michele's last great bag for Gucci, and perhaps his most elegant.
The Aphrodite made its debut in May 2022 during Alessandro Michele's Cruise 2023 "Cosmogonie" fashion show, presented at Castel del Monte in Puglia — a collection that blends archival elements with modernity in Michele's characteristic style. A few months after this memorable show, Michele announced his departure from the house — making the Aphrodite one of his last legacies to the Gucci house, and giving it a collector's dimension beyond its simple aesthetic value.
The gold-toned metal Double G that adorns the bag is a direct resurrection of a house code from the 1970s — Michele had reintroduced it in his Fall/Winter 2016 collection and made it one of the most recognizable signatures of his tenure. On the Aphrodite, this vintage logo is part of a decidedly contemporary silhouette: crescent shape, curved and clean lines, soft leather that adapts to the body. The name itself is carefully chosen — Aphrodite, Greek goddess of beauty and love, for a bag that is both graceful and desirable.
How to wear it — 3 ways:
Under the arm, short strap — the strap shortened to the maximum, the bag held under the arm in a half-moon shape. This is the most instinctive and chic way to wear the Aphrodite — the crescent silhouette hugs the body naturally, the gold Double G is perfectly visible. Over a coat or a blazer, the effect is immediate.
On the shoulder, elongated strap — strap adjusted to a comfortable length on the shoulder, hands free. The bag falls naturally on the hip thanks to its rounded shape — sober and functional for everyday use.
In total black look contrast — black grained leather and gold-toned hardware on an entirely black silhouette: the Double G is the only golden accent, enough to sign everything without overdoing it. Luxury without ostentation.
