This Louis Vuitton card holder in yellow Tassil Epi leather is a small leather good that hides its true colors — at first glance, a bright yellow square with the embossed LV. Upon opening: a deep purple leather interior emerges like a secret burst of color. Two complementary colors in your pocket.
Epi leather is one of Louis Vuitton's most durable and distinctive signature materials. Introduced in 1985 by artistic director Pierre Paulin, it is characterized by its parallel horizontal grooves engraved into the leather — inspired by ripe wheat ears, hence its name — which give it both its recognizable texture and remarkable resistance. Unlike Vachetta or smooth leather, Epi leather does not patina, does not stain easily, and does not scratch. It is one of the most robust leathers ever produced by the house, designed to last for decades without weakening.
The Tassil yellow color — a warm, almost ocher, sunny yellow — is one of the most characteristic and sought-after colors of the vintage Epi line. What makes this piece particularly remarkable is the deliberate choice of a purple interior: Louis Vuitton systematically paired Tassil yellow with a purple interior to create a bold chromatic contrast, directly inspired by complementary color theories. Each opening of the card holder reveals this contrast — a color surprise that never gets old.
