Céline's Macadam canvas is one of the great forgotten legacies of French fashion, now being rediscovered by a new generation of collectors. Created in the 1970s and produced throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it is now at the heart of a growing craze for pre-Phoebe Philo vintage Céline. This mini camera bag is a particularly valuable piece: the compact and crossbody format, the Macadam canvas with its characteristic interlocking circles, the caramel brown leather with its visible white saddle stitching, the Triomphe blazon on the front sewn onto a piece of leather — all the codes of the house before it became what it is today. Manufactured in Italy around 1986, this example is in good condition for a forty-year-old piece — the coated canvas has particularly well withstood the test of time.
