Description & Story

A vintage Céline necklace circa 1960s-1970s with gold-plated medallion links and geometric cutouts — the modernist and sculptural spirit of 1960s Paris in a piece of haute couture costume jewelry. Rare, immediately graphic, impossible to find today.

Céline was founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana as a children's shoe brand, before establishing itself in the 1960s and 1970s as a full-fledged Parisian luxury ready-to-wear and accessories house — long before the era of Phoebe Philo and her iconic minimalism. During this period, the house produced gold metal costume jewelry with resolutely geometric and modernist forms, in line with the Parisian zeitgeist influenced by Op Art, Courrèges, and Pierre Cardin. This necklace is a perfect example: its repeated medallion links with crescent cutouts create a strong visual rhythm, a sculptural silhouette that adorns the décolletage like a designer piece of jewelry in its own right.

This piece is in good vintage condition. The polished gold finish is generally well preserved — some areas show slight wear to the plating and traces of use on the inside of the links, visible in the photos. The adjustable length from 32 to 41 cm via a hook clasp allows it to be worn as a choker or a looser necklace. Sold with Rarr Vintage pouch.
