This vintage Céline box bag in smooth black leather is a piece of absolute elegance — the polished black box leather reflecting light, the sculpted golden brass calèche clasp telling time since the 80s, the deep red leather interior emerging upon opening. And most importantly: an A− condition on vintage box leather, which is almost impossible to find.

The calèche clasp is the most iconic historical logo of the Céline house — an American sulky (horse harnessed to a two-wheeled jockey cart) sculpted in relief within a golden rectangular frame with "CÉLINE" engraved below. This logo illustrates Céline Vipiana's love for equestrian sports and the Parisian chic of grand occasions — it adorns Céline bags, belt buckles, and accessories from the golden age of the 70s to 90s, before being gradually replaced by the minimalist logo of the current house. Today, bags with the calèche clasp are the most sought-after vintage Céline pieces among collectors — symbols of a house at its peak of character and elegance.

Box leather — hand-polished, slightly rigid calfskin with a mirror-like surface that catches and reflects light — is one of the noblest and most demanding leathers in luxury leather goods. It requires constant care and easily shows superficial scratches — which is precisely why finding vintage box leather in very good condition is exceptional.
