Les Légendes de l'Arbre is one of Annie Faivre's most narrative creations for Hermès. First issued in 1998, this Carré 90 dives into the symbolic world of the tree and the myths that accompany it across cultures. The design makes specific reference to various botanical figures charged with meaning, such as the Hesperides' apple tree, the biblical olive tree, the cypress associated with immortality, the oak sacred to Zeus, or the pear tree linked to the myth of Tantalus.
The motif's structure is based on a particularly subtle interplay between trees and their reflections. On the water's surface appear the symbols and legends associated with each species, creating a composition that can be read as a forest but also as a map of mythological narratives. This iconographic richness is characteristic of Annie Faivre's work, whose scarves are recognizable by their lush, meticulous, and heavily documented designs.
Crafted from silk and made in France, this Carré retains its characteristic finishes with hand-rolled edges and its original label.
