Bottega Veneta was born in 1966 in Vicenza and was built on a refusal: that of the logo. While all Italian fashion houses of the era branded their pieces, this one chose to display nothing at all, staking everything on the human hand. The Intrecciato—this weaving of thin leather strips hand-intertwined—was born from this constraint, coupled with another more prosaic one: the sewing machines of the time damaged the finest leathers, so they were woven rather than sewn.
On a format of this size, the effect is striking. The weave runs across the entire surface, without interruption, even extending to the handles. The full-grain lambskin gives the whole piece a suppleness that changes everything: the bag doesn't stand stiff; it drapes, folds, and takes the shape of what you put inside. When empty and laid flat, it is only two centimeters thick and stores like a pouch; when filled, it fully expands. The taupe, warm and slightly greyish, is one of the easiest colors to wear in the house's repertoire.
The model's name speaks to its primary benefit. A fastener system placed on the sides allows you to fold them inward and instantly reduce the bag's volume: the large travel tote becomes a day bag again without losing its silhouette. When detached, it regains its 51 cm width and easily accommodates a 15-inch laptop, a pair of shoes, a toiletry bag, a cosmetic pouch, and a continental wallet—perfect for a business trip as well as a weekend getaway. The double zip runs the full length of the opening to secure the contents, and a zippered pocket keeps the interior organized. Made in Italy, serial number B01921773*.
