The Ophidia collection was launched by Alessandro Michele for Gucci's Cruise 2018 collection — its name comes from Greek and means "little serpent," a symbol of wisdom and creativity. The Ophidia Mini Round in black suede was introduced for the FW2018 collection in two versions: black suede with a patent leather trim, and GG Supreme canvas. The suede version is the rarer and more sought-after of the two — the black velvet of the suede absorbs light where the glossy patent leather trim reflects it, creating a matte/glossy texture contrast that makes the bag visually irresistible.
The green and red grosgrain Web ribbon on the front is Gucci's oldest and most recognizable signature — inspired since 1951 by the equestrian saddle straps that Gucci originally made for the English gentry.
