The Jackie is one of those bags that took the name of the person who wore it. Launched by Gucci in the 1960s under a different name, it became the "Jackie" to the public after being frequently seen on the arm of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who had made it her everyday bag. The fashion house eventually adopted the name. It is a rare reversal: it is not the brand that named the object, but the object that inherited a first name.
The silhouette has not changed since. A supple crescent that sits against the hip, an adjustable handle for shoulder carry, and above all, that piston clasp—the sliding mechanism that opens with a press of the thumb, which has become the model's signature. It is a bag that opens and closes in one motion, with no zip or buckle to undo.
This version, dating from the early 2000s, combines GG monogram jacquard canvas with black smooth leather details: the handle, the top trim, and the reinforced corners at the bottom. The monogram is not printed but woven directly into the material, giving it a more matte, textile finish than coated canvases. The hardware, in a champagne tone that is more muted than classic gold, matches the beige of the canvas. Inside, there is a black twill lining and a zipped pocket. Made in Italy, serial number 001-4075-17**.
