Trimmings — pompoms, tassels, braided cords, curtain tie-backs — belong to the ornamental vocabulary of couture houses that draw inspiration from classic French and Italian interiors, those of 18th-century private mansions, salons draped in damask, and heavy curtains held back by gilded cords. Here, Céline creates a graphic and sunny composition: on an ecru background, a bouquet of coral orange, khaki, and sky blue tassels opens like a corolla, held by finely drawn cords, framed by a wide saffron orange border that gives the piece all its intensity.
