Le carré de soie occupe une place particulière dans le vestiaire Chanel : accessoire discret, il concentre pourtant tout le savoir-faire de l'impression sur soie. Celui-ci joue sur un contraste maîtrisé — un vaste centre écru laissé nu, et une bordure entièrement travaillée en composition rayonnante, où des faisceaux or ocre s'échappent d'une frise de médaillons ornementaux ponctuée de gris-bleu et de touches bordeaux. La signature « CHANEL » s'inscrit en bordure, sans ostentation. Le résultat est un carré graphique mais sobre, qui se porte aussi bien sur un manteau que sur une tenue d'été.

La soie, souple et fluide, se noue facilement et garde bien le pli. Les bords sont roulottés main : cet ourlet arrondi, cousu point par point, est la finition traditionnelle des carrés de qualité et se distingue immédiatement d'un ourlet machine. Il donne au foulard son tombé caractéristique et sa légère épaisseur en périphérie. Les 88 × 86 cm en font un format polyvalent — autour du cou, en bandeau dans les cheveux, noué à la taille ou à l'anse d'un sac.
