Macadam is one of Céline's oldest monograms, designed in the 70s from a geometric motif that plays with the interlocking double C. Long overshadowed by the Triomphe, it has enjoyed a clear revival in recent years: Hedi Slimane brought it back to the forefront upon his arrival at the house, and the second-hand market has followed — period pieces, particularly those produced in Italy in the 90s and 2000s, are now among the most sought-after vintage Céline items. This bucket bag silhouette is a typical variation: a flexible structure that takes the shape of its contents, a leather drawstring to close the opening, a Céline patch affixed to the body of the bag, and a caramel leather base that provides volume and stability.
This is the large format version — 34 × 29 × 12 cm, a height that completely changes its utility. While medium-sized Macadam buckets are limited to the essentials, this one easily accommodates a full day's worth of items: cosmetic pouch, phone, compact wallet, glasses case, planner, or small iPad. It is the bag you grab for work, traveling around the city, or a short weekend trip. The caramel leather strap, adjustable up to 114 cm, allows for dual carrying options: worn short, it sits on the shoulder; worn long, it turns the bag into a hands-free crossbody, which is particularly suited to a bag of this size that you don't want to hold by hand all day. The piece is in good overall condition. The Macadam canvas is clean and flawless, the caramel leather features a beautiful uniform patina, and the bottom of the bag remains clean. There is some rubbing at the corners (see photos), consistent with the life of a vintage piece, and patina on the gold-tone hardware that adds to the object's character. The interior is spacious and in good condition with signs of previous use, with no major flaws to report.
