Since the creation of the first "Jeu des Omnibus et Dames Blanches" carré in 1937, Hermès has made the silk scarf a true signature of the house — each carré is made from silk twill woven in Pierre-Bénite, near Lyon, with a photogravure pattern taking six months to two years to create, then screen-printed screen by screen, one per shade. The hand-rolled hems finish each piece individually, in the direction of the threads and never cut. This small format applies all the same standards on a more discreet scale: the same silk, the same finish, the same exacting quality — but in a graphic black and white palette that abandons the chromatic profusion of the large carrés in favor of a more sculptural, almost architectural reading. A sober, easy-to-wear piece that finds its place as much on a white shirt tied as a loose tie as it does in the hair like a 60s scarf, on the belt of high-waisted trousers, or wrapped around the handles of a bag to instantly dress up a more neutral piece.
