Born in the 1960s alongside its larger model, the Papillon line owes its name to its characteristic cylindrical silhouette which, when placed on a table, vaguely evokes the unfurled wings of a butterfly. The Papillon bag quickly became one of Louis Vuitton's great classics, available in three sizes over the decades and accompanied by a matching small pouch — the Pochette Papillon — originally designed as a removable cosmetic case tucked inside the bag. This very pouch is presented here: a mini cylindrical format of 16 × 7 cm, featuring all the house's codes, the Monogram coated canvas designed in 1896 by Georges Vuitton, the natural Vachetta leather trim and handle, and the gilded brass zip closure. Now discontinued, it has acquired true collector value, highly sought after by Louis Vuitton vintage enthusiasts — especially as it perfectly matches the micro-bag trend that has been popular for several seasons. A format reserved for absolute essentials — lipstick, card holder, keys — as a phone will not fit in the cylinder: to be considered as an evening clutch to be carried by hand, or as an organizing pouch to slip into a larger tote.
