The card holder is one of those small accessories in the Louis Vuitton catalog that, without claiming the status of an It bag, perfectly embodies the spirit of the house: the care given to everyday objects, the same Monogram canvas and the same grained leather as on large bags, a use designed to last. Designed in 1896 by Georges Vuitton, son of the founder, the Monogram canvas was originally created to protect the house's trunks against increasing counterfeits — a graphic vocabulary inspired by Japanese motifs then very fashionable in Europe: the trilobe, the quadrilobe, the four-petal flower, and the intertwined LV initials. More than a century later, it continues to adorn the house's leather goods with the same timelessness. This example manufactured in 1990 features a clean canvas and a caramel leather interior that has remained in very good condition, with only slight rubbing on the edges — the discreet mark of time passing
