Macadam is one of Céline's oldest monograms, designed in the 70s based on a geometric pattern playing with interlocking double Cs. Long overshadowed by the Triomphe, it has clearly experienced a second life in recent years: Hedi Slimane brought it to the forefront immediately upon his arrival at the fashion house, and the second-hand market has followed — vintage pieces, particularly those produced in Italy in the 90s and 2000s, are now among the most sought-after Céline vintage items. This bucket bag silhouette is a classic version: a soft structure that takes the shape of whatever you put inside, a leather drawstring to close the opening, a Céline emblem affixed to the body of the bag, and above all — a rare detail — a small matching Macadam pouch that remains permanently attached by a gold chain.
What really sets this example apart is the interior: the bag is fully lined in camel leather. This is a finish not found on contemporary buckets, where canvas or synthetic fabric lining has become the norm — Céline reserved this kind of treatment for the most sophisticated pieces in the line, and the difference in use is immediate. The leather interior lasts longer, does not tear, and also develops a patina that complements the exterior finishes. The matching pouch absorbs anything that might get lost at the bottom of an open bag: cards, coins, earbuds, while the main body holds bulkier items — cosmetic pouch, phone, compact wallet, glasses case. The caramel leather shoulder strap, adjustable up to 81 cm, carries comfortably on the shoulder.
The piece is in good overall condition. The Macadam canvas is clean and flawless, the caramel leather features a lovely even patina, and the bottom of the bag remains clean. There is some rubbing on the corners (see photos), consistent with the life of a vintage piece, and a patina on the gold hardware that adds to the character of the object. The camel leather interior is in good condition, odorless, with slight signs of prior use.
